THE actor son of Hollywood icon Will Smith is to star in a remake of the hit 1984 film The Karate Kid. Jaden Smith, 10, will play the lead role in the new film, which will contain elements of the original movie's plot but is to be set in Beijing and other cities, Daily Variety reported. Jaden Smith made his feature film debut alongside his more famous father in the successful 2006 hit The Pursuit of Happyness.

AUSTRALIAN teenage pop star Gabriella Cilmi has cancelled her first major concert scheduled in her home town of Melbourne so she can appear on television in Germany. The Frontier Touring Company announced the 17-year-old was pulling out of the December 7 show due to a "major" TV appearance to be recorded the following night in Germany. The TV spot, with an audience of more than 5 million people, comes after Cilmi's album Lessons To Be Learned went gold in Germany. Cilmi is "crushed" about missing the Melbourne concert, but she will return to perform there with The Cat Empire on February 1 as part of Tennis Australia's entertainment program. Cilmi, who recently blitzed the ARIA awards, will still perform at the Homebake festival in Sydney in December.

THE second season premiere of Domestic Blitz attracted an average 131,000 viewers in Newcastle on Monday night. The emotional 90-minute special, dedicated to building a new house for the family of 16-year-old Tourette's syndrome patient Bianca Saez, attracted a peak audience of 159,000 in Newcastle to win the night.
